SIFT Based Vein Recognition Models: Analysis and Improvement
نویسندگان
چکیده
Scale-Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) is being investigated more and more to realize a less-constrained hand vein recognition system. Contrast enhancement (CE), compensating for deficient dynamic range aspects, is a must for SIFT based framework to improve the performance. However, evidence of negative influence on SIFT matching brought by CE is analysed by our experiments. We bring evidence that the number of extracted keypoints resulting by gradient based detectors increases greatly with different CE methods, while on the other hand the matching result of extracted invariant descriptors is negatively influenced in terms of Precision-Recall (PR) and Equal Error Rate (EER). Rigorous experiments with state-of-the-art and other CE adopted in published SIFT based hand vein recognition system demonstrate the influence. What is more, an improved SIFT model by importing the kernel of RootSIFT and Mirror Match Strategy into a unified framework is proposed to make use of the positive keypoints change and make up for the negative influence brought by CE.

Visual Word based Location Recognition in 3D models using Distance Augmented Weighting
For visual word based location recognition in 3D models we propose a novel distance-weighted scoring scheme. Matching visual words are not treated as perfect matches anymore but are weighted with the distance of the original SIFT feature vectors before quantization. To maintain the scalability and efficiency of vocabulary tree based approaches PCA compressed SIFT feature vectors are used instea...
متن کاملPalm Vein Recognition Based on Three Local Invariant Feature Extraction Algorithms
In contrast to minutiae features, local invariant features extracted from infrared palm vein have properties of scale, translation and rotation invariance. To determine how they can be best used for palm vein recognition system, this paper conducted a comprehensive comparative study of three local invariant feature extraction algorithms: Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT), Speeded-Up Robu...
متن کاملPerformance Evaluation of SIFT - Based Descriptors for Object Recognition
Object recognition has become one of the most active research topics in computer vision in recent years. The set of features extracted from the training image is critical for good object recognition performance. The Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) was proposed by David Lowe in 1999; the SIFT features are local and effective for object recognition. In this paper we conducted a survey of...
متن کاملFinger-Vein Verification Based on Multi-Features Fusion
This paper presents a new scheme to improve the performance of finger-vein identification systems. Firstly, a vein pattern extraction method to extract the finger-vein shape and orientation features is proposed. Secondly, to accommodate the potential local and global variations at the same time, a region-based matching scheme is investigated by employing the Scale Invariant Feature Transform (S...
متن کاملResearch Progress of the Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) Descriptors
The SIFT (Scale Invariant Feature Transform) is a computer vision algorithm that is used to detect and describe the local image features. The SIFT features are robust to changes in illumination, noise, and minor changes in viewpoint. The SIFT features have been used object recognition, image retrieval and matching, and so on.. The research of SIFT descriptors and improved SIFT descriptors is im...
